January 2023 - PROFILES: Frankee Romero

Frankee Romero is a proud Indigenous actor and a tribal member of the Laguna Pueblo Kawaika Tribe. A musician, actor, and performer, Romero enjoys life in the acting field and providing positive representation. We talked about how he began his journey, his influences, and his upcoming projects.

How did your acting journey begin?

I started off getting involved with background work. I loved the crew's dedication and wanted to get involved more in some way. Later I started taking acting classes and began taking filming seriously.

Who are some of the actors that influenced you in your journey?

Meeting native actors like Tatanka Means, Wes Studi, and Jonathon Joss has been influential, but when I met Tatanka, we connected on so many levels. Today, we still keep in touch.

Tell us about some of your upcoming projects.

The Wraith Within, where I shared scenes with Jonathon Joss, will be released in early 2023. I'm also working on another film by Ricky Lee called Justin Coyote, which will begin filming in march 2023. My return to my band Blinddryve will be on February 16th at Launchpad.

Working in film has helped me reconnect with my culture - growing up in Laguna Pueblo. I had to adapt to city life at an early age. Being a first-time dad, I need to rework my language and prayers to share with my family.

What is the one piece of advice you would give to those who want to act?

My best advice to new and upcoming actors is to be good to everyone. Listen to the signs around you, take chances, and be confident. Ground yourself in your training got to be ready.

Where can people find out more about you and your work?
