April-May 2022 - NOW SHOWING: Clark
It is safe to say that any movie with Bill Skarsgård will be an experience. The star of IT and IT Chapter The star of the Netflix series, Clark, shows that if he isn’t going to be the best of the best, he'll be the best at being the worst.
The fictional drama series follows Clark Olofsson on his life journey as he fools all of Sweden to fall in love with him, despite several counts of drug trafficking, attempted murder, assault, theft and dozens of bank robberies. Based on the truths and lies revealed in Olofsson's autobiography and directed by Jonas Åkerlund, the series provides a fictional take on one of the most controversial personalities in contemporary Swedish history.
Skarsgård was excited to accept the role, sharing his thoughts in 2020. "Clark Olofsson is, for good and bad, one of Sweden's most colorful and fascinating individuals," shared Skarsgård. "I accept this challenge with delight mingled with terror and I think that with Jonas and Netflix in the back, we can tell a groundbreaking story with a pace and madness we may not have seen on TV before. Clark's life and history is so incredible and screwed that it would even make Scorsese blush."
You'll find yourself hooked after watching the first episode. From his birth to his death and resurrection, you won’t be bored. Skarsgård is a comic cut-up in this show - a chameleon in how he got out of particular situations while trying to run from the law. The series, sharing the backdrop of Olofsson’s childhood, half his life in and out of prison, and enjoying the accolades, seems to celebrate the celebrity he became due to his crimes and choices. The decision to do so fits the narrative of a man whose participation in the Norrmalmstorg robbery led to the phrase "Stockholm Syndrome".
For Director Jonas Åkerlund, this was the type of project he strives to do. Clark is the story about the most politically incorrect man, who lived the most politically incorrect life. These are the kinds of stories I always look for. It’s an ultra-violent, witty, emotional, real and surreal biography to put a face to the name Stockholm Syndrome, but it isn’t just about the Norrmalmstorg Robbery. It’s about his whole life and what made him who he is, the truth and lies of his incredible career. Bill Skarsgård is the perfect match for this and he will bring the Stockholm Syndrome to the role. And Netflix is the perfect platform, they are not just the biggest streaming service, they also have the boldness to tell this incredible story.”
While the series shows the stories of Olofsson's deception in bright and lively cinematography, it shows the consequences, as well. Clark is currently streaming on Netflix.
