Growth rarely arrives all at once. More often, it unfolds quietly — in late-night writing sessions, in unfinished songs tucked away for years, in moments of clarity that only make sense in hindsight. For Albuquerque musician Gregorio, that evolution has culminated in his debut solo album, An Absence of Meaning, a project that reflects both personal introspection and artistic expansion.

Known locally as the frontman of Gregorio and The Unknown, Gregorio has built a reputation for emotionally driven performances and immersive live shows. Now, with his first solo album released into the world, he is stepping into a new chapter — one that honors his individual voice while still embracing the collaborative energy that defines his band.

At the heart of An Absence of Meaning is reflection. The album is not a collection of random tracks but a cohesive body of work shaped by lived experience. "It's basically just a journey of life — of my life," Gregorio explained. "Some experiences I went through, love, relationships, developing viewpoints… It took a while for some of the songs because I've had them for years."

That patience is evident in the album's structure. Rather than rushing to release singles as they were written, Gregorio allowed the songs to age. Over time, he began noticing a thematic thread running through them — something deeper than isolated moments. "After a while, I realized the songs had a theme. They were cohesive," Gregorio shared. "Eventually, I was like, you know what, this has a concept to it. And I want to put that concept out."

The result is an album that feels intentional, layered, and emotionally honest. While the title might suggest existential uncertainty, the music itself reveals clarity — a recognition that even in moments when meaning feels absent, the act of creating can be grounding.

Balancing a solo identity with an established band dynamic can be complicated, but for Gregorio, the transition has been surprisingly organic. The solo project began as something deeply personal — songs written from his own experiences, shaped solely by his perspective. But live performance introduced a new dimension.

"When I wanted to perform the songs, I reached out to some friends to help me," he said. "But in doing so, we realized we were able not only perform these songs, but also start writing together."

That collaboration evolved naturally into Gregorio and The Unknown — a collective that expands the sound while maintaining his artistic vision. Rather than separating the two identities, he found a way to merge them. "I can still have my solo project," he explained, "but let's write music together. So it's Gregorio, and then The Unknown. And we just put it all together."

That synergy becomes especially powerful on stage. Studio recordings capture nuance and intimacy, but live performances introduce heightened energy and dynamic interplay. "When you see them live, because we have extra people and a band, you'll hear them in a whole entirely different way — with more energy," he said. "It's amazing."

Albuquerque audiences will have an opportunity to experience that transformation firsthand at an upcoming show at Black Wall Gallery on March 29. The venue, known for showcasing local artists and fostering creative community, provides an intimate setting that aligns perfectly with Gregorio's immersive sound.

But the debut album is far from the finish line. In fact, Gregorio's momentum suggests this is only the beginning of an especially prolific period. "I'm actually working on an EP — just a collection of four or five songs," he revealed. That upcoming EP will be released under his solo name, further expanding the personal side of his catalog.

Meanwhile, Gregorio and The Unknown continue to push forward as a band. The group recently released a new single and plans to follow it up with another release in the coming weeks. The balance between solo artistry and band collaboration could easily become overwhelming, but Gregorio approaches it with focus and gratitude.

His creative output reflects a musician who understands that growth requires movement. Each song, whether written alone or with bandmates, becomes part of a broader narrative — one shaped by experimentation, trust, and vulnerability.

Fans can stream An Absence of Meaning on Spotify, Apple Music, and other major platforms. In an era when music is consumed in fragments — shuffled playlists, algorithm-driven recommendations — Gregorio's debut album invites something different: immersion. It asks listeners to sit with the full arc of the journey, to experience the emotional shifts from track to track, and to recognize the connective tissue that binds them together.

That commitment to storytelling is what sets An Absence of Meaning apart. It is not merely an introduction to Gregorio as a solo artist; it is a statement of intention. It declares that growth is ongoing, collaboration is essential, and meaning is often found not in certainty, but in the willingness to keep creating.

For Albuquerque's music community, that dedication is both inspiring and energizing. Gregorio represents a generation of local artists who are building sustainable careers through authenticity and connection — blending personal narrative with collective expression. As he continues to release new material and takes the stage with renewed vigor, one thing is clear: the journey is far from over. If anything, it is just beginning to take shape, and in that unfolding process, meaning is anything but absent.
