August 2018 - Let Us Entertain You: Comedians give back with Do it Big

On August 4th, comedian Virginia Gonzales presents a comedy show for a cause with The New Mexico Youth Foundation & Alliance. Do it Big is a standup comedy show benefiting Saranam: A Refuge from Homelessness for families and Children ( Gonzales shared what her inspiration was for this event. “The inspiration is two-fold. First and foremost, I want to give back to the community and children are near and dear to my heart. I work in the field of Commercial Property Management and deal with the homeless a lot. As you know, it is a serious problem in our city. I often have to call authorities to move along homeless people who are camping at the properties I manage. So, my thought process is to be part of the solution. Especially, when it comes to our children. There are many families, sometimes just single moms, trying their best and still have found themselves without a home and there are children involved. That is where Saranam comes in. Secondarily, I need an agent ready reel as I will be stepping into performing on cruise ships in the fall.”

As stated on their website, New Mexico Youth Foundation & Alliance is a non-profit, independent, group that serves the community by partnering with businesses, schools, athletic organizations, local government, law enforcement, and other non-profits to reduce risk factors and create more protective assets for our youth. Gonzales is excited to be provide an event that will provide funds for this worthy organization.

Do it Big will present a full night of comedy. Gonzales shared what attendees can expect. “It is a full comedy show with an Emcee, Opening Comedian Nicolina Nitche, Feature Comedian Eddie Tafoya and me,” shared Gonzales. “We are all local stand up comics who have been part of the local scene for many years. Nicolina hosts an open mic night for up and coming comedians on Tuesdays of each week at the Red Velvet Underground located on Eubank and Menaul. Eddie and I have performed together for the past 14 years. We each bring our own style of comedy and are looking forward to providing entertaining evening of laughter and entertainment. We will be providing free popcorn and cookies for all who come to see the show.”

The event will take place at The South Broadway Cultural Center at 1025 Broadway SW starting at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $10. Visit to purchase your tickets.
