November 2017 - Extras: Jemez Springs Bath House
Rustic. That word doesn’t quite describe the feelings you get when you are at the Jemez Bathhouse. Tuck up in the center of Jemez Springs New Mexico, the Bath House was the first structure built in Jemez Springs between 1870 and 1878. It’s been in operation ever since offering private baths in cement tubs. Luckily for us they have expanded their menu in modern times and offer cool water soaks.
Get there early and you can browse around their boutique full of local items in skin care, clothing and books. You can also choose aromatherapy bath salts and tea bags for you 30 or 60 minute soak. (Local hint you get a free 30 minute soak within a week of your birthday). The Bath house offers all the standard spa options, but my recommendation is to go with the Jemez Special. It comes with a 30 minute soak, a hot towel herbal wrap, and finishes off with a 60 minute massage. If you can walk after that you can go right out the back door and sit by the river. Check out their Facebook feed to find out about other specials and hours. https://www.facebook.com/jemezspringsbathhouse.
The prices are reasonable and staff is friendly. Even the ghost who hang around the bath house are calm and relaxed. It’s a great stop on your way up to or down from all the natural wonders the Jemez Mountains have to offer. Everyone needs to unwind and spend some time in nature. If you book on a Saturday during the summer the Farmer’s Market is right in the parking lot.
