November 2017 - Cover Story: The Magical Stylings of Piff The Magic Dragon

Part of my Summer routine is watching the world’s largest talent competition, America’s Got Talent. Last season introduced America to an interesting character by the name of Piff The Magic Dragon. Armed with a chihuahua, a magic box and a sandwich, Piff performed the most interesting magic tricks while having you in stitches at the same time. Making it to the Top 10 of the competition and solidifying himself as a fan-favorite, New Mexico will have the opportunity to see Piff live and in person at The Stage

So, how did the creation of Piff The Magic Dragon begin?

I went to a costume party as a dragon. No one turned up in costume. After an hour of looking very grumpy in a dragon outfit, someone said to me, you could do this in your act. You could be Puff the Magic Dragon. I thought, wait, I could be Piff the Magic Dragon. You might have heard of my older brother. Steve?

What is it about Piff that makes audiences go crazy?

They come for the dog and stay for the dragon.

You were in the top 10 of the country's biggest talent show - a fan favorite. What was the first thing you did after America's Got Talent?

Flew back to Las Vegas and did a show the very next night. I've lived in Las Vegas now for four years and I love it.

Has life become dramatically different since your appearance on the show?

Mr Piffles and I get to tour all over America. We've played coast to coast from New York to San Francisco to Hoover Alabama.

Vegas has become your new home. What's it like having your own show in Vegas?

Ridiculous. Who would have ever thought that a grumpy lizard from London would end up all over Billboards in Las Vegas?

How did the food/eating become a bit in the act? I love it!

I was hungry! That whole “Sponsored by Dunkin' Donuts” is one of the greatest lies in show business. Also, it's very difficult to receive criticism when you are the Godzilla of Magic, so much better just to eat your way through it.

What can we expect with your performance in Albuquerque?

A grumpy dragon doing card tricks. Plus Mr Piffles is bringing his brand new mind reading act to the show, The Dog Who Knows. It’s a whole new show, totally different material from Las Vegas.

What has been your greatest fan-favorite moment in your career?

Penn Jillette recently became Pop the Magic Dragon. Sharing the stage with him was pretty special.

You are now a household name, beyond 15 minutes of fame. What would you like your legacy to be?

PIFFLAND! It’s my plan to open the world’s first magic dragon themed theme park. Investors, feel free to hit me up.

Piff The Magic Dragon will be performing at The Stage at The Santa Ana Star on November 17th and 18th at 7:00 pm and 9:30 pm. New Mexico Entertainment Magazine will be doing a Facebook Live prior to his performance on Friday at 9:00pm. Tickets can be purchasing at www.thestageatthestar.com/
