NME After Print: Nichols excited to team up with Mattel on 50th Anniversary Doll

In honor of the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, Mattel and Nichelle Nichols are joining forces to create a Uhura Barbie doll, based on her iconic character. The dolls, with are being created for adult collectors, will be developed in the image of Nichelle Nichols, featuring a fully articulated body and sporting an authentic replication of their respective TOS costumes, based on a press release by Mattel.
"I'm very flattered and excited to join forces with Mattel and Barbie," shared Nicholas. It's a stellar way to start my next 50 years in show business with a Barbie Uhura doll."
Described by Mattel, the Uhura doll will depict her with a communicator in one hand and a tricorder strapped over her shoulder. It is part of a series - along with a Captain Kirk and Dr. Spock doll. The cost will be $34.95 and can be pre-orded at www.thebarbiecollection.com.
